Property market shows big signs of improvement on the Costa del Sol

The property market on the Costa del Sol is once again starting to boom after a 7 year downturn. It was a period that saw prices slashed by up to 40%.

Prices are much lower than they were 7 years ago. You can now buy a 2 bed apartment in Duquesa Hills or Manilva for approximately €100,000.

La Cala de Mijas properties were the least affected in the downturn. The fishing village evolved into a vibrant resort with a choice of top class restaurants, cafes. As well, of course, a long, sandy beach.

Property prices here have very much held their own. New developments due to be built just outside the town sold out before a brick has been laid.

Seafront properties always command high prices. Marbella, in particular, is firmly on the European map of top places to live or spend a holiday.

Puerto Banus is often described as the party capital of Europe. Hen and stag parties have increased its pulling power among the younger visitors.

Benalmadena and Torremolinos are better suited to family holidays and offer a wide choice of attractions including long, sandy beaches, water parks, Sea Life, a Crocodile Park and plenty to keep the kids entertained.

Malaga is a big draw for long-weekends. It is fast catching up with Seville and Madrid as one of Spain’s most attractive cities.

Calahonda properties are also selling well again and this ‘British’ enclave situated between Marbella and Fuengirola offers a long, sandy beach, a choice of restaurants in the marina area and lively bars and cafes where you can enjoy a drink as the boats moor up.

Fuengirola continues to attract thousands of tourists, holidaymakers and holiday-home buyers to its shores where you can buy a two bedroom apartment from around €150,000.

Mijas-Golf and Mijas village are also popular areas for holidaymakers and home buyers. The village is one of the prettiest ‘pueblos blancos’ in Andalusia and Mijas-Golf is a pretty residential development overlooking Mijas Golf Course.

Property market on the Costa del Sol

Whether you are looking for an apartment rental in Duquesa, a house to buy in Marbella or a penthouse in Fuengirola, you will be spoilt for choice on the Costa del Sol.

Now is the best time to buy property on the Costa del Sol as prices are the lowest they have been for 10 years and it really is a buyer’s market. Oh and don’t forget the 325 average days of sunshine each year!
